Provide mechanical and structural engineering technician support to the NAVSEA 05V Ship Design Manager and PMS 312D Assistant Program Manager (APM) during Aircraft Carrier Refueling Complex Overhaul (RCOH) efforts. Assist with technical reviews, drawing markups, field data collection, and coordination with engineering and installation teams, including Customer Contracted Teams (CCTs) and Alteration Installation Teams (AITs). Support daily technical operations, compliance with Navy standards, and resolution of basic field issues in both shipboard and office environments.
- Assist in the review of ship drawings and technical documentation for mechanical and structural systems.
- Support design and field engineering efforts for aircraft carrier maintenance and modernization.
- Document and communicate recommended changes and discrepancies to senior engineers and program staff.
- Coordinate with CCTs and AITs on installation and alteration work.
- Conduct shipboard inspections and collect field data to support engineering decisions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Navy design standards, technical manuals, and specifications.
- Assist in preparing technical reports, briefings, and documentation packages.
- Maintain proper handling of DoD Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
- Associate degree in mechanical, structural, or marine engineering technology or related technical field.
- Equivalent military or shipyard training with 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience may be considered.
- 5–8 years of experience supporting engineering, ship repair, or design activities related to Navy ships (aircraft carriers preferred).
- Familiarity with Navy maintenance and modernization processes is highly desirable.
- Experience supporting structural or mechanical system installations, modifications, or repairs.
- Working knowledge of Navy technical documentation and ship drawings.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Familiar with basic CAD software tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and structural drawings and specifications.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Able to follow directions and complete tasks on schedule.
- Comfortable working in a shipboard industrial environment.
- Work performed in both office and shipboard environments, including dry docks and onboard vessels.
- May require climbing ladders, navigating ship compartments, and prolonged standing or walking.
- Must comply with OSHA, Navy, shipyard, and company safety procedures.
- Primarily local to Hampton Roads VA; occasional travel to Washington Navy Yard may occur.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Works under the direction of senior engineering staff and program managers.
- Collaborates with government and contractor personnel across engineering and shipboard teams.
- Moderate complexity involving coordination of drawing reviews, field support, and data handling.
- Requires ability to work with multiple teams and handle simultaneous tasking under schedule constraints.
