Job Description

Phoenix Group of Virginia is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior CAD Technician to support Navy and government design and drafting projects. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals with foundational CAD experience who are eager to grow within a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create and update electronic design drawings for shipboard installations and repairs using CAD software

  • Support senior designers with drafting, revising, and maintaining technical drawings

  • Interpret and apply design specifications in compliance with Navy/government standards

  • Coordinate with team members and stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate delivery of work

  • Maintain organized records, drawing revisions, and progress tracking

  • Assist in developing and maintaining simple design task scripts

  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to updates and reports

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in computer-aided design or related field

  • 0–2 years of relevant experience (internships or coursework a plus)

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software

  • Experience in developing/maintaining scripts (e.g., AutoLISP or VBA) is a plus

  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn complex technical subjects

  • Familiarity with interpreting technical drawings/specifications

  • Ability to handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) properly

  • Competent in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass background checks (criminal/traffic/credit) for access to shipyard

  • No travel anticipated outside Hampton Roads, VA unless pre-approved

Work Environment: This position involves coordination with government and military personnel and requires the ability to manage complex data under guidance. The role is supervised by senior CAD staff but requires initiative, communication, and team collaboration.
